I have to admit something.
The only reason I started watching Elle was because I wanted to know how Elle Woods became Elle Woods.
I’ve watched Legally Blonde more times than I can count, so when Prime Video announced a prequel, I was curious. I wanted the origin story. I wanted to know what teenage Elle was like before Harvard, before the courtroom, before she became one of the most iconic female characters ever written.
I pressed play expecting a little nostalgia.
Instead…
I was completely locked in from the very first episode.
This Isn’t Just a Prequel. It’s a Love Letter to Elle Woods.
Origin stories can be tricky.
Sometimes they explain too much.
Sometimes they take away the mystery that made us love the character in the first place.
Elle somehow avoids both.
Instead of trying to reinvent Elle Woods, the series reminds us why we fell in love with her in the first place.
She’s still optimistic.
Still sees the good in people.
Still walks into every room like she belongs there.
Still believes kindness is a strength instead of a weakness.
And somehow, after all these years, she still makes you want to be a better person.
Can We Talk About Lexi Minetree?
Let’s give credit where it’s due.
Playing Elle Woods is almost impossible.
You’re stepping into shoes made famous by Reese Witherspoon, and everyone watching already has their own version of who Elle is supposed to be.
So naturally, I was nervous.
But Lexi Minetree completely won me over.
She doesn’t spend the entire series trying to imitate Reese Witherspoon.
She captures Elle’s heart.
And I think that’s much harder.
By the end of the season, I wasn’t comparing her to anyone anymore.
I was simply watching Elle Woods.
That’s probably the biggest compliment I can give her.
I Think This Is the Funniest Version of Elle We’ve Ever Seen
I laughed so much watching this show.
Teenage Elle is awkward.
She’s dramatic.
She’s unintentionally hilarious.
She says exactly what’s on her mind, and somehow it never feels forced.
This version of Elle feels lighter and more carefree than the woman we met in Legally Blonde, and it makes sense.
We’re meeting her before life asks more of her.
Before heartbreak changes her.
Before she’s constantly trying to prove people wrong.
It’s such a fun side of the character to watch.
Honestly… Who Wouldn’t Want Elle Woods as a Friend?
The more I watched, the more I realised something.
I don’t have a crush on Elle Woods because she’s stylish.
Or because she’s beautiful.
Or because she’s iconic.
I love her because of who she is.
She’s kind.
She’s brave.
She’s ridiculously loyal.
(I’m still convinced “loyalest” should be a real word because she’d own that title.)
She’s the friend who celebrates your wins louder than her own.
The friend who believes in you before you believe in yourself.
The friend who somehow makes every room feel lighter the moment she walks in.
If we’re being honest…
The world could use a few more Elle Woods.
About Season 2…
Can I file a formal complaint?
Because I genuinely don’t think I can wait another year.
Yes, Prime Video has officially renewed Elle for Season 2, so we know it’s coming.
But knowing it’s coming and actually having it are two very different things.
I want it now.
If someone handed me a cheque and asked if I’d help fund Season 2…
I’d probably at least consider it.
If they needed an extra standing in the background?
Call me.
If they needed someone to clap every time Elle walked into a room?
I’m available.
Left to me, we’d all be watching Season 2 tomorrow.
More than twenty years after we first met Elle Woods, she still feels surprisingly rare.
Not because she’s the smartest person in every room.
Not because she’s the funniest.
Not because she always gets things right.
She’s memorable because she never apologises for who she is.
She proves—over and over again—that you can love fashion, wear pink, cry over a breakup, care deeply about people and still be incredibly capable.
Maybe that’s why so many women still see themselves in her.
Or maybe it’s because, in a world that constantly tells women to become less of themselves to be taken seriously, Elle Woods keeps reminding us to become more of ourselves instead.
