African Designers Have Until October 10 to Apply for CANEX’s Luxury Fashion Xchange: Here’s What Selected Brands Get

For an African fashion brand trying to move from strong design into serious retail conversations, the difficult part is often not creating the collection. It is arriving in front of buyers with the pricing, production capacity and sales materials required to turn attention into business.

Applications are now open for the CANEX Fashion Show and Luxury Fashion Xchange, a curated exhibition and trade platform taking place during CANEX WKND 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria. Designers have until October 10 to submit their applications, and the organisers state that late entries will not be considered.

Before applying, however, brands should understand that this is designed for labels with an existing commercial foundation—not emerging creatives with only an idea or first collection.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The call is open to designers of African or Caribbean descent, including nationals from Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Applicants must have at least three years of professional fashion-industry experience.

A qualifying brand must also have produced at least two ready-to-wear or accessories collections for women or unisex markets. Eligible categories include clothing, shoes, jewellery, bags and related products.

The commercial requirements are equally important. Applicants need a complete professional lookbook, line sheet and price list. They must be able to demonstrate previous sales through wholesale, e-commerce or retail, as well as reliable production capacity.

That last requirement matters. Buyer interest creates little value if a label cannot quote clear prices, fulfil an order consistently or maintain quality at a larger volume. Designers should therefore review their lead times, minimum order quantities, manufacturing arrangements and ability to restock before presenting themselves as buyer-ready.

CANEX also requires applicants to show an eco-responsible or sustainable element in their collections or wider brand practices. Designers should explain this with evidence rather than broad language—whether through materials, waste reduction, local production, traceable sourcing, repair practices or another specific approach.

What Selected Designers Can Expect

Selected brands are expected to present their Spring/Summer 2027 collections through a curated fashion exhibition and runway experience at CANEX WKND, scheduled for November 5 to 8 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Cultural and Creative Arts in Lagos.

According to CANEX, participants will also enter buyer-facing engagements involving international buyers, retailers, distributors and media partners. The organisers describe the programme as an opportunity for visibility, market-access conversations and possible wholesale, retail or distribution relationships.

These are organiser-stated opportunities, not guaranteed commercial results. Selection does not promise orders, stockists, press coverage, sales or international expansion. A designer’s preparation, product-market fit, pricing and follow-through will still shape what happens after an introduction.

What Designers Must Pay For

The programme should not be treated as a fully funded opportunity. The official application page states that selected designers must be able to pay for their own flights and accommodation in Lagos.

Applicants should budget for those major costs before applying, alongside local transport, meals, travel documentation, insurance, collection movement, packaging and any production needed to make the presentation ready. The official page reviewed by Adore Women does not state that those additional expenses will be reimbursed.

Designers must also be available to participate fully throughout CANEX WKND from November 5 to 8 and be prepared for discussions about international buying and distribution.

How to Apply Before October 10

Applications must be submitted through the form on the official CANEX Luxury Fashion Xchange page. The published timeline lists September 29 as the application launch, October 10 as the submission deadline and October 17 as the shortlist announcement date.

Before opening the form, prepare the information the eligibility criteria already make essential:

  • A professional lookbook showing the relevant collections.
  • A line sheet with clear product information.
  • A current price list.
  • Evidence of at least three years of professional experience.
  • Evidence of previous wholesale, e-commerce or retail sales.
  • A credible explanation of production capacity.
  • Details of the brand’s sustainable or eco-responsible practices.
  • Confirmation that the designer can attend the full programme and self-fund flights and accommodation.

The official application page does not state an exact closing time or timezone. Applicants should submit early enough to recover from upload, connection or form errors. They should also keep a copy of every file and the final submission confirmation.

The opportunity is most useful for brands that can arrive as businesses, not only as creative propositions. A coherent collection may earn attention; the systems behind it—pricing, production, delivery and follow-up—are what give a buyer confidence to continue the conversation.
